Research and data show that consumers are shopping less but spending more per visit, on average. What does that mean?

Fewer customers may be stopping through your doors or passing through your website. But those who do stop to shop are spending more when they’re in-store. So, how do you get more people shopping? Here are six ideas to add to your efforts.

1. Highlight The Unique Value Your Business Brings

Customers like a bang for their buck, but they also enjoy the value of what they’re purchasing. They want to know what they’re buying, how it solves their problems or needs, and how it’s different from what they can buy somewhere else.

So, buckle down, put on your thinking cap, and come up with your unique value proposition (UVP) that tells customers why they should shop with you.

Keep your UVP brief but impactful. Maybe you’re a small hometown business that features items from local artisans. Use that as a strength for why people should purchase from you instead of the big box chain store down the road. Emphasize why your business is different and a better option for your customers.

2. Engage With Your Customers

Cash is king? Nah, customer service is king, especially when consumers are making fewer shopping trips. A positive experience can bring existing customers back to your store and provide word-of-mouth marketing to future customers.

By engaging customers online or in person, you also have the advantage of identifying potential pain points and strengths. When you understand where you excel and how you can improve, you can implement strategies to make necessary changes. Existing customers then notice positive changes and feel that their opinions matter, which can build their trust and confidence in you and your business.

3. Use Creative Marketing Language

When you conduct your market analysis, you think about your potential customers. Who are they? What makes them tick? And when you develop marketing strategies, consider your target market in the language you use. Are they an older generation that would connect with more serious advertising? Or, is the demographic a little younger and more used to memes and puns?
